Postgraduate Scholarship in Neuropathology of a Model of SIDS
Open to candidate with an Hons 1 or 2A degree in Science to undertake a
full-time research project leading to a PhD; the project is to explore the
brain pathology of piglets as a model of human infants who have died from
the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS); experience/ background in animal
studies, or histological techniques would be an advantage; $18,484 pa; 3
years; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent
residents or New Zealand citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Metabolic Complications in a Model of
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea in Children
Open to candidate with an Hons 1 or 2A degree in Science to undertake a
full-time research project leading to a PhD, the project is to explore
metabolic abnormalities, occurring as a consequence of exposure to
intermittent hypercapnic hypoxia; experience/background in physiological
studies in animals, or glucose-insulin clamps would be an advantage.
$18,484 pa; 3 years; applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian
permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Breaking the Juvenile Crime
Cycle: Rehabilitating High Risk Young Offenders
Open to candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD,
applicants should have an Hons 1 or 2A degree or equivalent in an
appropriate discipline; experience working in the public health area is
essential; experience of survey design and implementation and knowledge of
univariate and multivariate statistical methods would be an advantage;
excellent oral and written communication skills, an excellent undergraduate
record of achievement, and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary
team; 3 years @$23,886 pa in 2004; applicants must be Australian citizens,
Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Open to candidate with a good hons degree in science or medical science to
undertake research studies leading to a PhD on cannabinoids (cannabis-like
compounds) as anti-cancer agents; applicants should have a particular
interest in cannabinoid pharmacology, cancer or molecular biology; $18,484
pa; up to 3 years; alternatively, a supplementary scholarship @ $5,000 pa
for 3 years is available to candidates that bring an existing scholarship.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Ultrasonography
Open to candidate to undertake full-time PhD research studies at USYD;
part-time enrolment may be negotiated; the clinical research project is a
randomised, placebo-controlled clinical trial aiming to determine whether a
novel treatment can prevent prostate growth in middle-aged men; applicants
must have significant experience in clinical ultrasound; experience in
prostate ultrasound would be an advantage; $23,886 pa in 2004; up to 3 years.

Program Travel Scholarships
Up to 3 scholarships are available for PhD students in NSW to present
research at international conferences/ institutions and to visit overseas
laboratories or centres of excellence; applicants must be at the stage of
submitting, or have submitted their doctoral thesis within the last 12
months, and are nominated by their University as eligible to receive such
an Award; up to $10,000.
