University of Sydney Grants-in-Aid 2003
Grants-in-aid are available to provide students with travel grants to 
support short-term periods of research overseas; applicants must be 
citizens or permanent residents of Australia; most grants are open only to 
full-time students enrolled in a research degree, although some are offered 
to undergraduates. Individual grants vary in value and purpose with most

Postgraduate Scholarship in Vascular Biology
Open to candidate with a good honours degree in biological sciences to 
undertake research studies leading to a PhD; applicants should have prior 
experience in lipoprotein metabolism, animal handling, histology, 
immunohistochemistry and biochemistry;  $20,000 pa; up to 3 years; 
applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Postgraduate Research Scholarships in Electron Microscopy
Open to candidates with a good honours or Masters degree in science or 
engineering to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in electron 
microscopy; the project would suit students who have an interest in any of 
the following areas: solid-state physics, nanomaterials, optical 
properties, quantum well systems, advanced instrumentation, microscopy and 
microanalysis and data processing; $23,294 pa, up to 3years.

The Ann Woolcock Biomedical and Medical Postgraduate Research Scholarships 2004
Open to science or medicine graduates of outstanding ability who are 
proceeding to a higher degree to undertake full-time research relevant to 
tuberculosis, respiratory diseases due to other infections, or respiratory 
diseases related to tobacco use; @ NHMRC rates (between the basic rate 
$18,009 pa to Medical/Dental rate of $26,782 pa in 2003); up to 3 years; 
applicants must be Australian citizens who are graduates or graduates from 
overseas who have permanent resident status and are currently residing in 
Australia.

John Nott Cancer Foundation Research Fellowship
Available to individuals who wish to work for up to 3months elsewhere in 
Australia or overseas with a cancer research/treatment department or unit 
in a recognised institution; special consideration will be given to 
individuals progressing toward a PhD or MD or who have submitted a thesis 
or wish to learn a new technique or generally improve on their skills in 
cancer management; award is to be used for travel; $10,000.

Norman Mccann Summer Scholarship
Open to students who have commenced or are intending to proceed to 
postgraduate study; support full-time research on the Library's 
collections, not the completion of a thesis; applicants must be age under 
30 on 1/3/04, and be drawn from the disciplines of Australian history, 
literature, librarianship, archives administration or museum studies; 6 
weeks from 5/1/04 to 13/2/04; living expenses for the duration of the 
scholarship, return economy airfare and accommodation at the Australian 
National University.

Sigma Xi Grants-in-aid of Research Program
Small grants for direct costs of scientific research projects are available 
for graduate students currently enrolled in degree seeking program; foreign 
students are exempt from any Sigma Xi membership requirements; US$100 - 
US$1000 + some special funds permitting larger amounts.

The Australian Universities Europe Network (AUEN) Research Travel Grant 
Europe 2003-2004
Travel grants of $2,000-$2,500 are available to postgraduate scholars
