Postgraduate Scholarship in Diversity of AM Fungi Soil Health
Open to candidates with Honours Class 1 or 2A in Biology, Molecular 
Genetics or Soil Science, or the equivalent; the project is to develop 
deeper understanding of the biological health of soil used to grow cotton; 
$24,000 pa + research support; up to 3 years; applicants must be citizens 
or permanent residents of Australia, have a current class A drivers licence.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Biology of Carbon Sequestration funded by 
Cotton CRC
Open to candidate with a good honours degree in science to undertake 
research studies leading to PhD; the project is to investigate the dynamics 
of organic carbon in soil associated with growth of cotton and their 
mycorrhizal fungi; $24,000 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be citizens 
or permanent residents of Australia.

Kolling PhD Top-up Scholarships
Open to prospective PhD students of high academic merit who will apply for 
Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) or equivalent PhD scholarships; 
projects related to cancer cell and molecular biology, cancer genetics, 
renal medicine and perinatal medicine; $7,000 pa + $5,000 pa for project 
costs and conference travel; students who will apply for an APA or 
equivalent scholarship should discuss possible projects with potential 
supervisors at the Institute to commence in 2003; expressions of interest 
by 18 October 2002.

CSIRO Livestock Industries (CLI) PhD Scholarships
Open to applicants who should be completing or have completed either a 
veterinary or Honours science degree; 2 scholarships are offered in the 
Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) which is part of CLI located in 
Geelong; awardees will be able to choose a project from a number in 
specific areas of immunology, bacteriology, proteomics or virology; 3 years 
@ $2,5000 pa; applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of Australia.

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Predoctoral Fellowships in 
Biological Sciences
Open to students who have completed less than one year of graduate study 
toward an M.S, a PhD or an Sc.D degree in biological sciences; hold or 
pursuing medical or dental degrees (M.D., D.O., D.V.M, D.D.S.) may also be 
eligible; full-time research in understanding of basic biological process 
or disease mechanism; 5 years @ US$21,000 pa (for 2003-2004) + fellow's 
allowance US$2,500 pa + institutional allowance US$13,500 pa; applicants 
can be either US citizens or foreign citizens.
