Julian Small Foundation
Open to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are undertaking
research in law or industrial relations; selection on the basis of research
proposal setting out how the research will advance thinking and practice in
employment law and industrial relations in Australia; one or more grants up
to $12,000.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Subduction Modelling
Open to suitably qualified candidate with background in geophysics, finite
element modeling, c++ and perl programming and parallel computing; to
undertake research leading to an MSc in geophysics; investigating the
effect of dynamic topography in basins north of Australia based on
subduction modelling ; $17,609 pa pro rata for seven months from 1 June to
31 December 2001; must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

Postgraduate (Completion) Scholarship in Information Technologies XML Metadata
Open to graduates already enrolled in a PhD within the School of
Information Technologies and within 18 months of completion; must be
conducting research in the area of metadata for digital items, making use
of XML/RDF standards; will be required to pursue their PhD research on a
full-time basis and not take on other work commitments; tax exempt
scholarship valued at $16,000 pa, pro rata for 9 months.

Postgraduate (Completion) Scholarship in Information Technologies Text
Classification
Open to graduates already enrolled in a PhD within the School of
Information Technologies and within 18 months of completion; must be
conducting research in the area of text classification approaches that are
suited to large document collections; will be required to pursue their PhD
research on a full-time basis and not take on other work commitments; tax
exempt scholarship valued at $16,000 pa, pro rata for 9 months.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Medicines Management in Diabetes
Open to suitably qualified candidates with good honours degree in pharmacy
practice to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in pharmacy
practice; must have at least three years experience as a pharmacist; must
have training in pharmacy practice research and an interest in the quality
use of medicines in Diabetes; valued at $10,400 pa (tax exempt) and may be
renewed for up to three years subject to funding ability; must be citizens
or permanent residents of Australia.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Atopic Dermatitis Research
Open to medical, dental, veterinary and science graduates for a PhD
scholarship in atopic dermatitis research in the Institute for Immunology
and Allergy Research (IIAR) in the Westmead Millenium Institute on the
Westmead campus of the University of Sydney;research is in the field of
molecular immunogenetics and immunopathogenesis of skin disease with a
particular focus on severe atopic dermatitis; funded at the NHMRC scale by
the Skin and Cancer Foundation.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Bioorganic Chemistry
Open to a suitably qualified candidate with good honours degree in
chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related subject to undertake research
studies leading to a PhD in bioorganic chemistry; collaborative project
between the School of Chemistry and the Centre for Infectious Diseases and
Microbiology at Westmead Hospital involving the design and synthesis of
compounds that inhibit enzymes responsible for fungal virulence and, where
appropriate, the biological testing of those compounds at the Westmead
laboratories; valued at $17,609 pa (tax exempt) and may be renewed for up
to three years subject to funding ability; must be citizens or permanent
residents of Australia.

Alzheimer's Australia Travelling Scholarships
Open to applicants with a higher degree in a discipline relevant to the
field of dementia, and associated with an institute of higher learning
which is willing to be the auspicing body; to undertake research or
advanced study at a hospital or university outside Australia; study period
between six weeks and three months and the applicant must undertake to
return to Australia for a minimum of two years.
