The following Scholarships are available:

RESEARCH
Chemistry, Physiology, Medical, Indigenous Health Research, Medical/Dental, 
Public Health, Primary Health, Dora Lush (Biomedical)

Category: Research

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) (APAI) in Chemistry
Open to candidate with an Honours 1 or 2A degree in science or equivalent 
to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in chemistry; the research 
will be conducted with the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory; the goal 
is to synthesise steroid metabolites and develop analytical techniques for 
the detection of drug abuse in sport; commencing in 2002;  $22,771 pa; 
relocation and conference travel allowance is also available. Applicants 
must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia who have lived in 
Australia continuously for the past 12 months.

Cell Physiology Scholarship
Open to candidate with a good honours degree (or equivalent) in Physiology 
to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Physiology; the project 
is to investigate the mechanisms of Ca2+ signalling in epithelial cells; 
experience in fura-2 imaging methods and the use of replication-deficient 
adenoviruses is preferred; applicants must be citizens or permanent 
residents of Australia; $17,609 pa

Wenkart Foundation Postgraduate Medical Grants
Open to candidate be involved in an initial post graduate study; for 
research in any of the medical disciplines, human diseases and organ 
malfunctions, and in any associated scientific or sociological 
investigations; funding will depend on the expenses of the project

NHMRC Training Scholarship for Indigenous Health Research
Open to applicants enrolled in a diploma, certificate, undergraduate or 
postgraduate degree at a fully accredited institution; for research 
training or training leading to research in areas of particular relevance 
to indigenous Australians; valued at $17,609 pa (APA rate), $22,723 pa 
(NHMRC rate for nursing or allied health professionals) or $26,188 pa 
(NHMRC medical/dental scholarship rate) depending on qualifications; for 
one year but renewable to three (subject to satisfactory progress).

NHMRC Medical/Dental Postgraduate Research Scholarship
Open to medical or dental graduates undertaking a postgraduate degree 
involving full-time research; all relevant health related disciplines, 
including social and behavioural science, will be considered; $26,188 pa; 
awarded for 1 year initially with possibility of renewal for up to 3 years.

NHMRC Dora Lush (Biomedical) Postgraduate Scholarships
Open to graduates who have completed a science or health related honours 
degree (or equivalent), unregistered medical or dental graduates from 
overseas who have permanent residence status and are currently residing in 
Australia, students enrolled in a graduate medical program combined with a 
PhD, and Allied Health Professionals with an Honours degree or equivalent; 
candidates must enrol for a higher degree requiring full-time research; 
$17,609 pa or $22,723 pa for allied health professionals; awarded initially 
for 1 year with possibility of renewal up to 3 years.

NHMRC Public Health Postgraduate Scholarships
Open to Australian citizens or permanent residents residing in Australia 
who are medical or dental graduates registered to practice in Australia, 
Australian citizens who have already completed a health related degree (or 
equivalent) at time of submission of the application, health related 
graduates and unregistered medical or dental graduates from overseas who 
have permanent resident status and are currently residing in Australia; 
$17,609 pa,  $22,723 pa for allied health professionals, or $26,188 pa; 
initially awarded for 1 year with possibility of renewal for up to 3 years.

Australia; $17,609 pa, $22,723 pa for allied health professionals, and for 
medical/dental graduates $26,188 pa.
