The Australasian Association of Philosophy (AAP) invites applications for
Editors or Co-Editors of the *Australasian Journal of Philosophy (AJP)*,
one of the world’s leading philosophy journals.
The AJP publishes high-quality research across all areas of philosophy and
has a long-standing international reputation for scholarly excellence. The
Association is now seeking applications from outstanding scholars with the
vision, leadership, and editorial capability to guide the journal through
its next phase of development.
The appointment will commence from October/November 2026, allowing for a
transition period prior to the conclusion of the current Editor’s term in
April 2027. Appointments are ordinarily for a five-year term.
The position is supported by an annual honorarium together with copyediting
assistance provided by the Association.
The AAP welcomes applications from:
- co-editors;
- editorial teams; or
- individual candidates.
The Association is interested in sustainable and collaborative editorial
models and welcomes proposals regarding editorial structure, workflows, and
areas of editorial responsibility.
*Role*
The successful applicant(s) will provide intellectual and strategic
leadership for the journal, including:
- overseeing peer review and editorial decision-making;
- maintaining the journal’s scholarly quality and international
reputation;
- working with the publisher and editorial support staff;
- supporting timely and fair review processes;
- contributing to the ongoing development and visibility of the journal.
*Applicants*
Applicants should have:
- an outstanding research profile in philosophy;
- experience in academic publishing and peer review;
- strong organisational and leadership capabilities;
- a demonstrated commitment to scholarly excellence, fairness, and
professionalism;
- the capacity to manage editorial workflows effectively.
Applications from candidates with prior editorial experience are
particularly encouraged. It is assumed that the editor will be based in
Australasia.
*Application Materials*
Applicants are asked to submit:
1. a curriculum vitae;
2. a brief statement (2–3 pages) outlining:
- their editorial vision for the journal;
- their proposed editorial structure;
- approaches to sustainability, continuity, and workload management;
3. a brief statement regarding any institutional support available to
support the role (if applicable).

Preferred commencement: October/November 2026 to commence transition and
handover arrangements, with full editorial responsibility to transfer at a
later stage. Flexible commencement arrangements will be agreed in
consultation with the successful applicant(s).
