This year for the first time ever we will be hosting an Ethics Olympiad for Australasian Tertiary students. The Australian Association of Professional and Applied Ethics (AAPAE) and the Ethics Olympiad Project are working together to offer this unique opportunity for tertiary students on the 4th of October 2022.
Graduate and Undergraduate university students are invited to enter teams to represent their tertiary institution. Any tertiary institution can participate, but there is a maximum of two teams from each institution allowed to enter. During the day all participants will be involved in a series of three heats where they will be scored according to set criteria that rewards, clear, concise, respectful discourse around interesting ethical cases. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the top three teams.
Participants will face students from other tertiary institutions throughout Australasia and be given the chance to argue respectfully and constructively with each other on contested issues. The heats use the same format as the 'Ethics Bowl' in the US. The main difference is that all teams will participate online in Zoom breakout rooms. There will be a round-robin format with different teams representing their universities. In the end, Gold Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the winning university teams. University-based philosophers from throughout the world judge the heats throughout the day. Sound like fun ...It will be!!!!.. but you need to sign up a team now.
