Hi all,
Apologies for cross-posting.
The Australian Centre for Health Engagement, Evidence and Values invites
you to the:
EXPERT WORKSHOP ON REGULATION AND GOVERNANCE OF SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN
ADAPTIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SYSTEMS IN HEALTHCARE: ETHICAL, LEGAL AND
SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS
9am-4pm, Friday, 23 September 2022
Fraser Suites, Kent Street, Sydney NSW
Overview: Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly deployed in
healthcare, including in administrative, clinical, public health and
research domains. Some AI applications, referred to as learning or adaptive
systems, are capable of changing by interacting with new data. In
healthcare, deployment of learning or adaptive AI applications has been
largely limited to administrative domains such as management of health
records and workflow. The advantages of learning AI applications for
screening, diagnostic and other clinical services are yet to come into
fruition. Currently, AI systems approved for use in health services are
limited to what has been referred to as "locked" algorithms, which provide
the same result each time the same input is provided. Such limitation is
due to concerns that existing medical device regulations across different
jurisdictions are not fit for purpose to address the potential risks or
harms of learning algorithms.
This workshop will examine current and potential mechanisms for regulation
and governance of health care AI in Australia, with special focus on how to
identify and assure significant change in adaptive healthcare AI systems.
The workshop will be in person only. There is no cost to attend, but spaces
are limited. Information about speakers and registration are available
