This is a reminder for:

Title: Anik Waldow
Understanding Human Nature
When we refer to human nature we often do so in order to say that there are
aspects of ourselves that are fixed and cannot be changed. In this talk I
will challenge this conception of human nature by engaging with the
eighteenth-century practice of thinking of humans as malleable, adaptive
animals that form themselves by emotionally responding to their social
environment. On this account, nature in the guise of our natural
susceptibility to the world and others emerges as the cause that delimits
how we learn and what we can learn, while artifice manifests itself as a
substantial ingredient in naturally unfolding processes triggered by
interactions with our surroundings, thus jointly depriving the
nature-nurture distinction of its explanatory function.
