Subject:Human Sciences Perspectives Workshop and Public Lecture on "Memory"

Dear Colleagues,
We would like to announce an open workshop and an open public lecture to be
held at Macquarie University on the 28th and 29th of November 2012, as part
of the *Human Sciences Perspectives series on “Memory”*. Registration is
free, but places are strictly limited so register early to avoid missing
out.  Registrations are separate for the Workshop and the Public Lecture
(see details below).



*WORKSHOP (28th and 29th November)*

The theme of this workshop is *"Scaffolding Memory Across the
Lifespan",*and will include presentations from researchers in
Cognitive Science,
Psychology, and Education. In addition to the local speakers, three
international keynote speakers have also been confirmed: Suparna
Rajaram<http://www.psychology.sunysb.edu/srajaram-/>(Stony Brook),
Elaine
Reese <http://www.otago.ac.nz/psychology/staff/elainereese.html> (Otago)
and Donna Addis
<http://www.psych.auckland.ac.nz/uoa/donna-rose-addis>(Auckland).


Topics will include scaffolding and memory development in children, shared
memory performance in teams and work groups, scaffolding memory in old age,
and the development of shared delusions as an example of "scaffolding gone
wrong". A panel discussion session on developing and integrating
methodologies for investigating our questions of interest will also be held.

*PUBLIC LECTURE (28th November, 6-7pm)*
The theme of the public lecture is *"Memory: The Thread of Life"* and will
be presented by Professor Suparna Rajaram from Stony Brook University.
Professor Rajaram will draw on her two decades of research on human memory
to discuss way that memory works and the role that it serves across our
lives.

This event will take place at Macquarie University (E6A 102) at 6pm on
Wednesday 28  November 2012, with light refreshments served from 5.30pm.
