Dear colleagues,

The Geological Survey of Norway is looking for a postdoc in numerical
modelling of continental rifted margins. The advertisement follows below
and you can also find it at www.ngu.no/en/page/vacancies

If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to drop me a
message at susanne.buiter at ngu.no

And if this is not directly for you, could you help spread the word in
your institute? Thank you!

With best wishes,
Susanne

--------------------------

The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU), based in Trondheim, is the
central national institute for knowledge of bedrock, mineral resources,
surface deposits and groundwater of mainland Norway and of the
near-surface geology of the Norwegian continental shelf. The Survey's
tasks include geological, geophysical and geochemical mapping,
development and maintenance of databases, research, information
activities and advice to governmental bodies and industry. The NGU staff
of 206 includes representatives of 29 nationalities and 65 % of the
staff are scientists. For general information about NGU's organisation
and mandate, see www.ngu.no

The Team for Solid Earth Geology at NGU invites applicants for a
two-year temporary researcher (postdoc) position in tectonic modelling.
The position aims at investigating the formation and evolution of
continental rifted margins. The researcher is expected to use numerical
models to study the effects of variations in the extension process on
rifted margin structures. These can include micro-continent formation,
the interaction of melts and rifting, and/or transtensional processes.
Contribution to software development and/or involvement in our bedrock
mapping programme are possibilities.

The Team for Solid Earth Geology at NGU maps the onshore and offshore
bedrock of Norway. We combine field observations with analyses and
models with the aim of understanding how Norway was formed. We use a
range of methods such as structural geology, geochronology,
geochemistry, petrology, seismic interpretation and numerical
techniques. NGU's data are freely available in the form of maps and
databases on www.ngu.no

The successful candidate should have a quantitative background in Earth
Sciences, with experience in geodynamic computational methods and
preferably a solid understanding of rifted margin evolution. Applicants
must have completed their Ph.D. education at the time the position
starts. We emphasize the ability to work independently as well as within
a multidisciplinary team.

NGU encourages applications from female scientists. We can offer a
favourable working environment, unique scientific challenges, and good
possibilities for international collaborations. NGU sees diversity as a
strength for the business performance, and encourages qualified
candidates to apply, regardless of age, gender, disability, national or
ethnic background. NGU is an Inclusive Workplace enterprise, and we will
facilitate for applicants with disabilities.

Remuneration of the positions will be according to the Government's main
agreement on wages, as follows: Scientist with PhD degree (code 1109)
from NOK 486.100 gross per year.

(+4773904265, susanne.buiter at ngu.no) or Division Director Øystein
Nordgulen (+4773904245, oystein.nordgulen at ngu.no).

Please send your application together with a CV, transcripts, a list of
publications, a statement of research interests and the name and email
address of three referees (easiest is to upload all this in one pdf), by
15th September 2017 by using the “apply for position” button on the link
at www.ngu.no/en/page/vacancies

The lists of applicants are publicly available information. Only in
special cases will this information be held back.
