JpGU 2016session S-IT11

Geodynamicevolution of northeast Asia and western Pacific

Invited speakers:

Bor-Ming Jahn, National Taiwan University

Tim Byrne, University of Connecticut

Jon Lewis,Indiana University of Pennsylvania

The sessionaims to draw new observational constraints, geodynamic models, and novelsyntheses that have implications for the Mesozoic to present-day tectonicreconstruction of the NE Asian margin and western Pacific region.  Long-lived subduction, accretion, collisionand the formation of new basins have shaped the vast region that todayincludes: the Japan Sea, the East China Sea, the South China Sea, thePhilippine Sea, the western Pacific, China, Taiwan, the Korea Peninsula andJapan.  Rapid advances in imagingtechniques have provided new high resolution, crustal to lithospheric scalemodels of NE Asian basins and cratons.  Weinvite contributions from across the disciplines including geology, seismology, marine geophysics, sedimentology, geodesy, paleomagnetism, geochronology, andgeodynamic modeling.
