Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Australian Academy of Science invites applications from Australian early-career researchers to the 2027–28 Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellowships.

The program supports eligible Australian-based postdoctoral researchers to undertake 12 to 24 months of collaborative research in Japan with a host researcher at an eligible university or research institution.

Fellows receive:

  * a round-trip air ticket, in accordance with JSPS guidelines
  *   a monthly maintenance allowance of ¥362,000
  *   a settling-in allowance of ¥200,000 for eligible recipients
  * overseas travel accident and sickness insurance.

Through the fellowship, researchers can gain firsthand experience of Japan’s research environment, access specialised expertise and facilities, and build lasting connections with Japanese researchers and institutions. These connections can support ongoing joint projects and strengthen research links between Australia and Japan.

Proposals aligned with Australia’s National Science and Research Priorities<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/VzTPCVARKgCXkXOGMcyirriE1R7B?domain=go.pardot.com> are strongly encouraged.

Review the eligibility and application requirements and begin your application.

Applications close at 11.59 pm AEDT on Wednesday 21 October 2026.
