Dear ASA colleagues,
We are a month away from two international astronomy education conferences on our fair shores!
We have the AstroEdu, https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/EAJmCJyBrGfKJ6LrMsVfYsyYvBq?domain=astroeducon.org , in Melbourne (23rd to 25th September) and the Robotic Telescopes, Student Research and Education (RTSRE), https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/NcC7CK1DvKT4oXxEpFvhxs5Fy6J?domain=rtsre.space, in Hobart (29th September to 1st October).
The RTSRE conference this time around provides the usual range of talks and workshops across the RTSRE spectrum. Notable this year is that there is a large focus on radio astronomy education with many new opportunities, telescopes and approaches becoming available to education users. Robotic radio possibilities have significantly expanded over the last 5 years! There is also a significant increase in optical installations at universities and schools being able to contribute networks to astronomy education and collaborate together with robotic telescopes, where previously this has been dominated by the larger networks.
The AstroEdu conference series covers a broad scope across research and practice from primary school to postgraduate, from practical in-the-classroom work to theoretical astronomy education research. This year, the conference spans talks and workshops from engaging with migrant and rural children through mathematical interventions for undergraduate astro101, to the motivations and experiences of astronomy PhD graduates while considering astronomy education research over the last century and also in specific nations, topics and content areas around the world. All of this is supported by a rich keynote and workshop program.
Beyond the talks and workshops, this is a unique opportunity for members of the Australian astronomy education community to come together and engage in discussions about the future of Astronomy Education and Practice in Australia.
Registrations are still open for both conferences and there are discounts for teachers. We hope to see you there!
