[ASA] Invitation to join the "3D view of galaxies" online meetings

Dear all,

This is a quick reminder— especially for new ASA members— about the 3D View of Galaxies online talk series.
This initiative is open to everyone in the community, with a particular focus on students and early-career researchers.

Why this series?
Australian astronomy has a strong tradition of leadership in studying galaxies in 3D, from early radio surveys to SKA pathfinders, and more recently, integral field spectroscopic surveys. Australian astronomers are also increasingly involved in ESO facilities such as MUSE and ALMA. While many survey teams have their own internal science meetings, we have noticed a growing demand—particularly from students and postdocs—for opportunities to share their work with a broader audience and engage with colleagues across different fields, including both observations and theory. To address this, a group of us from multiple institutions, career stages, and survey teams launched this initiative in 2023 to help strengthen collaborations across the Australian astronomy community.

We are thrilled with the engagement so far—over 140 people registered, with a typical attendance of 20-30 participants. Thank you all for your support!

How does it work?

  *   When? Second Tuesday of each month at 2:00 PM Sydney time (via Zoom). Re-starting February 11th.
  *   Format? Two short talks (10-15 min each), followed by an extended Q&A session (10-15 min).
  *   Interactive Q&A: Questions can be asked live via Zoom or through Slack, allowing discussions to continue beyond the event.
