Dear ASA members,
I write to inform you of two changes to the composition of the ASA Council.
Ashley Ruiter was unable to continue in her role as Vice President due to personal circumstances. With the Society’s needs in mind, Ashley suggested that a new VP step into the role at the earliest opportunity, well in advance of the July 2025 AGM when a new President will be elected. Following Clause 16 in the Constitution, the ASA Council was required to fill a casual vacancy of Vice President by invitation.
I am delighted to announce that Richard McDermid was enthusiastically endorsed by the ASA Council as the new Vice President of our Society commencing the day after Ashley’s resignation.
Richard’s elevation to the VP role created a casual vacancy for a general Councillor (the position he held prior to becoming VP). Again in accordance with the Constitution, Council has endorsed Claudia Lagos as a new Council member until the 2025 AGM.
Please join me in welcoming Richard and Claudia to their new roles.
I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly say a massive thank you to Ashley Ruiter for her leadership and collegiality during her time on Council. I think I speak for many when I say that I will miss working with her.
Finally, a reminder to all ASA members that there will be a call for nominations to serve on the ASA Council early in 2025. I would encourage all interested members to consider serving on Council. Keep your eye out for that email!
Best wishes,
Stas
