Dear colleagues,

ASA members from all levels are encouraged to join the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Chapter of the ASA<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/P3IZCXLW2mUB0oGvgs6uJyR?domain=asa-ecr.org> to stay informed and connected to the national ECR community. For further information on joining, please visit our website<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/cMWjCYW8NockO2gRvhG0n5p?domain=asa-ecr.org>.

The ASA ECR Chapter is also inviting nominations for five positions on the Chapter Steering Committee - student representative, senior representative, two ordinary committee members, and the Chair**. Nominations should be submitted by email to nichole.barry at unsw.edu.au<mailto:nichole.barry at unsw.edu.au> by Friday 12 July, 2024.

The Chapter is active in promoting and assisting the career development of early- and mid-career researchers in the Australian astronomy community. The goals of the Chapter are:

- Inform the members about opportunities for professional training and support
- Provide training for the members in areas of professional development
- Connect the members with each other, with senior academic mentors, and with former academics working in industry, providing a support network
- Act as an advocacy and representation body for the members

The ECR Chapter has been active since 2013. Over that period, it has organised activities that have been beneficial to our ECR members, including seven workshops, an ‘Astronomers in Industry’ group, the annual ‘Speed-Meet-a-Mentor’ session, and the newly formed ASA ECR Chapter Symposium Series, which has led to at least one appointment for an ECR in our community.

The ECR Chapter is run by a steering committee who develop and carry out initiatives to fulfill the Chapter’s goals. The Committee consists of a chair, five ordinary steering committee members, a student representative, and a senior representative. Terms are held for two years (ordinary members) and one year (student representative and senior representative). This year we are looking for the Chair, two ordinary members, the student representative, and the senior representative. If we receive more nominations than open positions, then a vote will be held.

In the interest of having a steering committee that reflects the diverse experiences of the community, we particularly encourage people from racial, cultural, and gender minorities to nominate. These positions are open to all Chapter members, except for the student representative, which is open to students only. You can become a member of the Chapter through the ASA membership website (instructions<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/cMWjCYW8NockO2gRvhG0n5p?domain=asa-ecr.org/>).

Nichole Barry will be the returning officer for this election. Please send all nominations via email to nichole.barry at unsw.edu.au<mailto:nichole.barry at unsw.edu.au> by Friday 12 July, 2024. Each nomination must include a brief paragraph summarising your interest in the position and how you intend to contribute to the broad goals of the Chapter<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/2AITCZY1NqiP29xZwiK3g4O?domain=asa-ecr.org>. Please note that this information will be made available to voters (if voting is needed).

**Typically, the Chair position is held by someone with prior experience on the ECR Chapter Steering Committee.

Best regards,
Nichole Barry (She/Her)
