Postgraduate students and early career researchers are invited to convene for the Harley Wood School for Astronomy, hosted by the University of Sydney. The HWSA will take place primarily in person, with the goal of providing further opportunities for interactions and networking for ECRs alongside the online-first Annual Science Meeting. The school is centred around a program of presentations and discussions focused on the main theme: Bigger than Big: Across all Scales in Science and Technology.

Our speakers will cover a range of topics during the school:

  1.  Big Surveys and Instrumentation: Design and implementation of large-scale astronomical surveys, the use of advanced instruments, and strategies for proposing and conducting surveys.
  2.  Big Data Management: With the proliferation of observational and simulation data, understanding how to handle and analyse large datasets is crucial.
  3.  Collaboration in Science: Interdisciplinary collaborations and how science intersects at different wavelengths across different fields.
  4.  Career Planning and Strategy: Career planning and strategy for early-career astronomers covering topics such as managing supervisor relationships and navigating mental health during a Ph.D.

Tickets:

This year we have three ticket options:

- HWSA Attendance + Accommodation ($500)

- HWSA Attendance ($370)

- Online Attendance - Science Sessions only ($50)



Due to restrictions from the venue, HWSA Attendance ticket includes only Saturday and Sunday, no participation in Friday evening socials or breakfast on Monday morning. Online attendance will cover the science talks only.
