[ASA] Introducing the Data Central Users Committee

Do you have data or services you would like to see in the Data Central Science Platform?

Are there things that frustrate you about Data Central and/or do you have ideas for improvement?

We would like to introduce the Data Central Users’ Committee. The reason for setting up this committee is to give the community a greater voice in the services Data Central provides and to improve the transparency of the platform’s governance.

The committee is made up of active users of Data Central from a variety of different research backgrounds (the list of members is below). We encourage you to contact a committee member with any feedback you have. This can be anonymous if you are more comfortable with that.

The first meeting will be on Thursday 16 May, so please contact a member before then! The committee responsibilities are as follows:


  1.  Sustain and enhance the impact of Data Central across the research community.
  2.  Enable engagement and build trust with the research community.
  3.  Provide advice to the Head of AAO RDS on operational and software development issues relating to the components that make up Data Central.
  4.  Make recommendations to the Head of AAO RDS that seek to maximise the scientific productivity and to maintain the international competitiveness of Data Central, taking into account the likely resource availability.
  5.  Consult widely with the community, liaise where necessary with Australian research
  6.  teams, and establish priorities for both operational and developmental initiatives.
  7.  Meet twice a year, with appropriate input on developments and responses to issues from Data Central.
Provide an annual written report through the Head of AAO RDS for submission to the Data Central Strategic Advisory Committee.
