Dear Australian Astronomers,

(please distribute to others as appropriate)

Annual ESO User survey - closes 31 March
The Users Committee (UC) represents ESO’s astronomical community, forming a direct link between the users and ESO. On an annual basis the UC seeks feedback through a poll to assess your experiences with ESO operations: https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/_sBgCnx1jnil7QGA7U9IhWF?domain=eso.org. This year there is a special focus on Large Programmes.

I encourage all past, current and future users of ESO to complete the survey, especially but not only those who have submitted Large Programmes or considered submitting them. Your perspectives will be invaluable- please be assured that ESO takes the time to read all of the comments you take the time to provide.

The poll is open until 31 March 2024, hopefully giving enough time to complete the poll after the many excellent observing proposals we hope are submitted from Australian community!

Survey input is, of course, anonymised and will be gathered to provide recommendations to ESO concerning operations. You are welcome to contact me directly should you wish to provide further information to the UC about any ESO-relevant topics.

OPC and Expert Panel nominations - by 5 April
ESO would like to receive nominations of candidates from the Australian astronomical community who are willing and available to serve on the OPC and its Expert Panels during the next 4 periods (i.e. P115-P118). As a reminder, OPC members serve for 4 ESO periods, while Expert Panel members serve for 2 periods, plus a possible 1-period extension. Nominations received by the deadline will then be compiled and sent to the ESO Nominating Committee, for their final approval.

If you wish to nominate yourself, please send me the following details by 5 April:
- Name
- Affiliation
- Position
- Year of PhD
- ORCID
- Most relevant scientific category (https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/pRO0Cp81lrtQnPz1niY1mrb?domain=eso.org)
- Three preferred subcategories from any category
- Whether you are nominating for the OPC or the Expert Panels, or both.

Best wishes for success with your observing proposals, and we will see some of you at Thursday’s Australian ESO Proposal Workshop (workshop registration form<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/FX3xCq71mwfL8GOK8TEx160?domain=docs.google.com>; see Stuart Ryder’s email last week for full details).

Regards,

Sarah
