Dear ASA,
On behalf of the editorial board, including Australians Simon Ellis (Macquarie) as well as Joss Bland Hawthorn (U. Sydney) as lead editor, we would like to announce the Astrophotonics Joint Feature issue in JOSA B and Applied Optics, with final publication anticipated for June 2021. Astrophotonics describes integrated photonics that are developed for applications in astronomy and astrophysics. Papers including theory, manufacturing, development, characterization, verification and application of astrophotonics are welcome, and we invite you and your connections and colleagues to submit manuscripts.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Beam combiners
Integrated spectrographs
OH suppression
Frequency combs / frequency references and metrology
Photonic lanterns
Polarization detection, including OAM
Photonic materials for VIS / NIR / MIR astronomy
Ultrafast laser inscription for astronomy
Space-qualification of astrophotonic devices
Integrated photonics for space-based astronomy
Astrophotonics design, simulation and manufacturing
Properties of star light: photon count, coherence, time evolution
Frequency conversion and optical correlators
Coupling optimization
Advanced high-contrast coronagraphic masks
Platforms for photonics production
Timeline:
Submissions Open: 1 November 2020
Submission Deadline: 5 January 2021
Publication: June 2021
