Dear ASA community,
This morning, we heard the wonderful news that Prof. Ken Freeman has been honoured with the Companion of the Order of Australia. The citation reads:
"For eminent service to astronomy through pioneering contributions in the field of galactic archaeology, as a leading astrophysicist and researcher, to tertiary science education, to professional academies, and as a mentor of young scientists."
Ken is a founding member of the ASA, and has served on council several times. In 2001 he gave the ASA Ellery lecture, and has been recognised for his scientific contribution through being admitted as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Fellow of the Royal Society, the Prime Minister’s Science prize and the Gruber prize in cosmology to name just a few. Along with his outstanding scientific achievements, Ken has supervised more that 50 PhD students, and remains an active collaborator and mentor to the Australian astronomy community.
