[ASA] IAU scam email

To ASA members,
Please be aware that there is a scam going around in which you receive an email, purportedly from an officer of the IAU, pointing out another astronomer with visa issues and needing financial assistance. That is probably enough warning for you, but you may then receive a phone call from an immigration official asking if you know the person with quite a low key inducement to assist. It all sounds plausible - but it is a scam.

Apparently many IAU members have received this approach in the recent days and the same people targeted other Scientific Unions in the past.

John
