[Limdep Nlogit List] Reading xls files

Dear all
I know limdep can read xls files but not xlsx files. I recently also found limdep reads old xls files (created long ago) but not xls files created recently, e.g., with R, Stata, and Excel’s Save As. Any idea how I might read a recently created xls file? (I know csv files are viable work-around, but I’m interested in the extra option with xls files). Thank you!
