What is technē? Plato and Craft

Abstract:
Technē is a key concept in Plato’s philosophy, connecting his epistemological and ethical projects. I’ll discuss the cultural context of his interest in this topic, and how to understand the relationship between this concept and other key terms in his epistemological vocabulary—particularly episteme.

Biography:
Dr Emily Hulme is a Senior Lecturer in Greek Philosophy at the University of Sydney. She has a forthcoming book on Plato and techne with CUP and has also been working on the subject of women in Greek philosophy. Her ultimate, major research interest is the topic of the strategies adopted by different philosophical schools for finding the right language for philosophy.
