Research Scholarships

 

APAI Health and Welfare of Dogs in Remote Indigenous Communities

For a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research project is monitor the health and welfare of dogs in remote Indigenous communities, undertake epidemiological studies on mortalities and infectious disease and to provide evidence to contribute to a culturally relevant education program in each community; applicants should be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait descent, have an H1 or 2 degree in either veterinary science, agricultural science, in medical science, biosciences or related areas; $25,627 pa; up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Chemistry

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons degree in science (preferably chemistry) to undertake research studies on the design, synthesis and properties of photoinduced charge-separation systems and more broadly in molecular electronics leading to the award of a PhD in chemistry; the project is to investigate aspects of molecule design to exhibit long-lived charge separation and will be based on porphyrin chemistry; $25,365 pa; up to 3 years.

APAI Finding new economic drivers for Sea Change (Coastal) communities

For a research project leading to a PhD; the objective of the research project is to explore new economic drivers for Sea Change Communities and to develop feasible guidelines for introduction;  applicants should have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline; must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens; $25,627 pa; up to 2 years.

CSIRO Flagship Postgraduate Scholarships

Up to 50 National Research Flagship Postgraduate Scholarships will be offered; for high quality students eligible to enrol in a PhD who will be working on a project directly relevant to the goals of a Flagship; top-up scholarships are available to PhD students who have gained an UPA or UPA; full scholarships may be considered where a student has not been awarded an APA or a UPA provided that the student can supply evidence of excellent research skills and academic performance; the 9 Flagships are: Climate Adaptation; Food Futures; Minerals Down Under; Preventative Health; Wealth from Oceans; Energy Transformed; Light Metals; Niche Manufacuring (nanotechnology); Water for a Health Country.

Alzhiemer's Australia Research 2007 Postgraduate Scholarships Grants

Alzhiemer's Australia offers the following PhD scholarships for funding commencing in 2008, applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia: 2 AAR Postgraduate Research Scholarships in Social Research and Dementia - $25,000 pa for up to 3 years; Hunter Postgraduate Research Scholarship into the Causes of Alzheimer's disease $23,000 pa for up to 3 years.

USA to Australia Fellowships - Sir Keith Murdoch Fellowships

Applications are now being accepted for Sir Keith Murdoch fellowships (individual fellowships awarded up to US$20,000); the fellowships are awarded to outstanding Americans doing advanced (graduate and post doctoral) research or study in Australia in the following fields: Engineering, Medicine, Mining, Life sciences, particularly in the fields of Oceanography/marine sciences or Stem cell research.

Other Scholarships

 

Cassamarca Scholarships for Research in Italy

ACIS is offering 3 scholarships of up to $5,000 each for Australasians wishing to undertake research in Italy during 2008; available to students at Australasian universities who in 2008 will be enrolled in hons, research masters, or PhD degrees and who will be engaged in research projects in any of the following areas of Italian studies: archaeology and classical antiquities, language, literature, culture, history, politics and society, including migration studies.

Overseas Scholarships

 

The Scots Australian Council Scholarships

Tenable for 1 year only; for a postgraduate course in any discipline but with a general preference for the humanities; the scholarships include an economy return airfare, academic fees (capped at £12,000), and a stipend of approximately £700 per month for 10 months; candidates must be Australian citizens who are recent graduates and who have an informed interest in Scotland as well as the intention of returning to work in Australia.

Gowrie Scholarship Trust Fund Research Scholarship 2008


Applications are invited from graduates or final year students who are members of the Forces, children, grandchildren or other lineal descendants of members of the forces who saw active service for Australia in WWII; members of the forces who saw active service for other Commonwealth countries are also considered, provided that they were resident in Australia within the period of 12 months prior to enlistment; $4,000 pa;  up to 2 years at universities or other recognised research establishments, either in Australia or overseas.
