Research Scholarships

 

Postgraduate Scholarship in Bone and Joint Research

For a suitably qualified candidate with a good hons degree in science to
undertake research studies leading to a PhD; this project will determine
whether activated protein C (APC) reduces the severity of rheumatoid
arthritis (RA) by altering the abnormal immune response by T cells;
$29,172 pa; up to 1 year in the first instance; applicants must be
Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents.

PhD Scholarship in Skill Acquisition

For PhD candidates to research skill acquisition in players of the
Sydney Swans Australian Football Club in collaboration with a
multidisciplinary team from The University of Sydney; candidates should
hold, or be expected to obtain, a first class or good second class hons
degree or masters (research) degree in exercise and sports science,
human movement studies, physiotherapy, experimental psychology, or a
related field; $35,000 pa; up to 3 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Molecular Neuropharmacology

For a suitably qualified candidate with a Bachelor degree in science or
equivalent to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in
Pharmacology; the project is to investigate the molecular basis for how
glutamate transporters function and will involve the study of
fluorescent tagged proteins and site directed mutagenesis; $20,007 pa;
up to 3 years.

CCRE Postgraduate Medical Research Scholarships 

The scholarships are for medical graduates or graduates with science or
other health-related degrees who are interested in doing post-graduate
studies in clinical respiratory and sleep medicine with one of the CCRE
investigators; preference will be given to candidates enrolled, or
intending to enrol, in a PhD; the award will be issued on the terms and
conditions of the NHMRC post-graduate research scholarship and the
stipend will be equivalent; applicant musts be an Australian citizen, a
New Zealand citizen or an Australian resident.

Arrow- Hawkesbury Canoe Classic Scholarship

A supplementary scholarship is available for students commencing an APA
or comparable competitive postgraduate scholarship in 2008; this
biomedical research scholarship will be in the area of leukaemia and
transplantation; the scholarship will supplement postgraduate awards
commencing in 2008 from the APA rate - $20,007 in 2008, up to an amount
equal to the base rate of the NHMRC Medical Postgraduate Award - $29,172
in 2007 (2008 rate not yet available); up to 3 years.

Other Scholarships

 

Felix Arnott Residential Scholarship for Post-graduate Students 2008

The scholarship will be offset against residential fees in St Paul's
College to a total annual value of approximately $15,000 in order to
come within the maximum benefit allowable to holders of APA/UPA; is
initially tenable for a period of 1 year extendable annually by the
Council; the applicant will ordinarily be enrolled full-time in a
Masters degree by research or a PhD at the University of Sydney.

St Paul's College Half Foundation for Graduate or Post-graduate Students
2008

The scholarship pays one half of the residential fees in semestral
instalments and is tenable for a period of one year, extendable annually
by the Council up to three years; the applicant will be enrolled
full-time in a Graduate or Post-Graduate degree at the University of
Sydney.

St Paul's College Stapley Edwards Scholarship for Medical Students 2008

The Stapley Edwards Scholarship is provided for students enrolled in a
full-time medical degree at the University of Sydney; the scholarship
pays one quarter of the residential fees in semestral instalments and is
tenable for a period of one year, extendable annually by the Council.
