Research Scholarships
ANSTO-USyd Joint Postgraduate Scholarship in Materials Science
This scholarship will provide support for a research project leading to
a PhD to be undertaken across the 2 institutions; the project will be an
investigation of complex heavy-metal oxides as model materials for
nuclear wasteform ceramics and will involve synthesis, characterisation,
and modelling using facilities uniquely available at the University of
Sydney and ANSTO; $24,851 pa; up to 3 yrs; to start in Semester 2, 2006.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) in Agricultural
Microbiology/Biological Chemistry/Plant Morphogenesis
This scholarship will provide support for a research project leading to
a PhD; the project is to investigate the role of P-mobilising microbes
in the plant rhizosphere to promote the growth of crop and pasture
plants, in particular to examine the interaction of plant and microbe
genotypes as factors in the formation of highly effective relationships;
applicants must have an a H1 or 2A degree in a scientific discipline
with an emphasis on agricultural microbiology, biological chemistry or
plant morphogenesis; $25,118 pa; up to 3 yrs; applicants must be
citizens of Australia or NZ or permanent residents of Australia.

Overseas Scholarships
Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship
The Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and
Technology, Government of Japan: MEXT) offers scholarships to Australian
nationals who wish to study at Japanese universities under the Japanese
Government (MEXT) scholarship Program; for 2 yrs starting in April 2007
or 18 mths starting in October 2007; applicants must be Australian
nationals and be graduates or final year students under 35 years of age
on 1 April 2007 (born on or after 2 April 1972); return airfare plus
stipend of 172,000 Yen (approximately AU$1,900) per month.
