In Vivo and In Vitro Metastatic Models

This is a readvertised scholarship.  It was previously incorrectly
advertised under the title "Mechanisms of Cancer Cell Metastasis" with a
closing date of 25th January 2006.

This scholarship is available for the academic years 2006-2008
(inclusive) to support a full-time research project leading to a PhD;
the project involves the characterization of cancer cell motility,
invasion and metastasis by Neural Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein
(n-WASP) using fluorescence life-time imaging (FLIM), total internal
reflectance microscopy (TIRF) and electron microscope tomography.
N-WASP has an affect on the direction of cell movement and this project
entails investigations into the mechanisms involved and the role of
N-WASP in metastasis; applicants should have a 1st class or upper 2nd
class honours degree or equivalent in cell biology, microscopy,
biochemistry, genetics, biotechnology, anatomical sciences, medical
sciences, or molecular biology; applicants must be citizens or permanent
residents of Australia.

Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) on Mobile Learning in Museums

This scholarship will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis
for a research project leading to a PhD in education; the student will
work in collaboration with the industry partner, Sydney's Powerhouse
Museum, to design a pedagogical and technical approach for supporting
mobile learning; applicants should have a 1st class Honours or a 2nd
class First Division Honours degree from education, psychology, computer
science, or electrical engineering; double qualifications are highly
desirable; $24,650 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be Australian
citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Rheumatology

Open to candidates with an honours degree in science to undertake
research studies leading to a PhD in the department of Rheumatology; the
project is to investigate the therapeutic application of peptides for
the treatment of arthritis; $19,231 pa; up to three years; applicants
must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents.

Margaret Stewart Fund Scholarship

Open to suitably qualified graduates in Psychology of the University of
Sydney or any other university, whose postgraduate research falls within
the stated objectives; tenable for postgraduate study supervised within
the School of Psychology of the University of Sydney; $19,231 pa; up to
2 years; applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.

Lucy Firth Sydney University Postgraduate Scholarship

Candidates must have completed four years undergraduate training, or
three years undergraduate followed by a year of graduate training, and
must in the last year of their course have obtained a degree with First
Class Honours or Honours Class II Division 1, provided that the marks
achieved are in the higher range of Division 1, or hold an equivalent
qualification, and be enrolled for a full-time PhD in Psychology at The
University of Sydney; $13,030 pa; up to 3 years; applicants must be
Australian citizens or permanent residents.

Postgraduate Scholarships in Cancer Clinical Trials and Quality of Life

2 scholarships are available at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre for
suitably qualified candidates with bachelors degrees in medicine and
surgery to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Public Health;
the projects are studying how best to integrate quality of life
assessments with traditional outcome measures using data from over 1,000
subjects in randomized trials of axillary surgery for early breast
cancer, chemotherapy for advanced breast cancer, and supportive care for
advanced cancer; applicants should have particular interests in clinical
epidemiology; surgery or oncology; and, quality of life assessment;
$28,600 pa;  up to 3 years; applicants must be Australian citizens,
Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Liver Disease
A scholarship is available for clinical research leading to a Masters of
Medicine or Doctor of Philosophy degree; the research topic will be in
the area of chronic hepatitis C infection following liver
transplantation; applicants must have a medical degree, and training in
clinical gastroenterology/hepatology would be an advantage; $28,600 pa;
up to 2 years for Masters candidates; up to 3 years for PhD candidates;
applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents
or New Zealand citizens.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Dermatology


A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitable
candidate with a medical qualification (MBBS) to undertake research
studies leading to a M.Med in dermatology; the project is to investigate
the effects of different topical and oral compounds on ultraviolet
radiation-induced suppression of human skin immune responses; $26,000
pa; up to 2 years; applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of
Australia.
