Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Open to a suitably qualified candidate enrolled in the Master of 
Pharmaceutical Science; to investigate the interaction between vanilloid 
and PAR receptors; available to Australian citizens or permanent resident; 
$10,000 pa for one year.

PhD Commencement Scholarship in Key Centre of Design Computing and Cognition
A six-month scholarship for a student commencing a PhD in July 2003 in the 
School of Architecture, Design Science and Planning; research in the area 
of 'Developing the human-Computer User Interface in 3D Virtual 
Environments'; available to Australian citizens who are eligible to apply 
for an APA that commences in 2004; $10,000 for six months.

Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Stinkbug management in organic 
soybeans, Faculty of Rural Management
Available to a candidate for a Master of Philosophy (with possible 
conversion to PhD) exploring methods suitable for the control of stinkbugs 
in organically-grown soybeans; based at NSW Agriculture's Yanco Station; 
applicants should have a Honours or Masters degree in agriculture, 
environmental science or biological sciences with a knowledge of 
entomology, pest management or biological control but candidates with other 
backgrounds and practical experience can also apply; $18,009 pa for two 
years commencing Semester 2, 2003.

Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Vertebrates and Farm Trees, Faculty of 
Rural Management
Available to a candidate for a Master of Philosophy (with possible 
conversion to PhD) on the vertebrate fauna of diversified farm tree 
plantings; exploring benefits of diversifying small-scale agroforestry 
using flowering understorey shrubs and groundcovers; applicants should have 
a Honours or Masters degree in agriculture, environmental science or 
biological sciences with a specialization in vertebrate ecology but 
candidates with other backgrounds and practical experience can also apply; 
$18,009 pa for two years commencing Semester 2, 2003.

Postgraduate Research Scholarship in Passionvine hopper biology and 
management, Faculty of Rural Management
Available to a PhD candidate commencing in Semester 1, 2004 on the biology 
and management of passionvine hopper, a major problem in kiwi fruit in New 
Zealand; applicants should have a Honours or Masters degree in agriculture, 
horticulture or biological sciences with a specialization in pest 
management, entomology or ecology but candidates with other backgrounds and 
practical experience can also apply; $23,000 pa plus support to visit New 
Zealand on at least one occasion.

NHMRC Scholarships  all NHMRC Scholarships are for one year but renewable 
to three years subject to satisfactory progress.  They are valued at 
$18,009 pa (standard), $23,239 pa (for nursing or allied health 
professionals) or $26,782 pa (medical/dental graduates who are registered 
to practise within Australia).  Five types of scholarships are now open for 
applications.

1.  NHMRC Training Scholarships for Indigenous Health Research
Open to Australian citizens or permanent residents enrolling in a diploma, 
certificate, undergraduate or postgraduate degree at a fully accredited 
institution; for research training or training leading to research in areas 
of particular relevance to indigenous Australians.

2.  NHMRC Medical/Dental Postgraduate Research Scholarship
Open to Australian citizens who are medical or dental graduates registered 
to practice within Australia, or medical or dental graduates from overseas 
who are registered to practice in Australia, have permanent resident and 
are currently residing in Australia, to undertake a postgraduate degree 
involving full-time research in health related disciplines, including 
social and behavioural science.

3.  NHMRC Biomedical (Dora Lush) Postgraduate Scholarships
Open to Australian citizens who have completed a science or health related 
honours degree (or equivalent), unregistered medical or dental graduates 
from overseas who have permanent residence status and are currently 
residing in Australia, students enrolled in a graduate medical program 
combined with a PhD, and Allied Health Professionals with an Honours degree 
or equivalent; candidates must enrol for a higher degree requiring 
full-time research.

4.  NHMRC Public Health Postgraduate Scholarships
Open to Australian citizens who have already completed a degree in an area 
applicable in public health research at time of submission of the 
application, or graduates in area applicable to public health who are from 
overseas, have permanent residence status and are currently residing in 
Australia; candidates must enrol for a higher degree requiring full-time 
research in relevant health related disciplines.

5.  NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships for Primary Health Care Research
Open to Australian citizens who are medical or dental graduates currently 
registered to practice within Australia, or who have already completed a 
health related degree (or equivalent) at the time of submission; or health 
related graduates from overseas, have permanent resident status and are 
currently residing in Australia; candidates must enrol for a higher degree 
requiring full-time research in relevant health related disciplines.
