Postgraduate Scholarship in Low Coherence Interferometry for Interrogation 
of Electric Field Sensors Based On Poled Silica Optical Fibres
Open to candidate with a relevant honours degree/and or a degree and 
diploma in optical fibre technology to undertake research studies leading 
to a Masters by Research or PhD; industry experience in photonics and 
photonic sensing would be very favourably considered; experience in high 
voltage/current laboratory practice and safety would be desirable; 
applicants should be able to demonstrate experimental, theoretical and 
applied skills; $23,924 pa; may be renewed for up to 3 years for PhD, 2 
years for Masters by Research; successful applicant may also receive a 
supplementary scholarship of $10,000 pa; applicants must be citizens or 
permanent residents of Australia.

Postgraduate Scholarship in Bone Metabolism
Open to candidate with a good Honours degree or equivalent, to undertake 
research studies leading to a PhD; subject to successful enrolment in 
full-time PhD research degree at the University of Sydney; strong English 
communication skills are essential; 23,294 pa; 12 months initially, 
possibility of renewal for a further 2.5 years; applicants must be citizens 
or permanent residents of Australia

Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies 
(AIATSIS) Research Grants Program 2004
Available to support research into a wide range of research areas in 
Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies; individuals & organisations 
may apply; all applicants are required to have an administering 
institution; the 2004 closing date is an estimate based upon the 2003 date, 
the closing date will be updated in late 2003.

American Orchid Society Grants
Available for qualified graduate students with appropriate interests in 
conservation and preservation of orchids and/or advance the scientific 
study of orchids; if justified, their salary may be supported; travel to 
collect orchids is not supported; other types of travel may be supported on 
a case-by-case basis; support is not restricted to individuals or 
institutions within the United States; at present, grants range from 
$500-$12,000 and are offered bi-annually.
