Defending Deflationism about Temporal Experience
Deflationism about temporal experience is the view that we don’t have perceptual experiences according to which time (robustly) passes. It stands in contrast both passage illusionism and passage realism, according to which we do have such experiences, either because we experience time as it is (realism) or because we experience it a way it isn’t (illusionism). I present a new empirical argument for deflationism, which appears to evidence about what people report about their own temporal experiences. I argue that the best explanation for no only what people report, but also, for which factors influence what people report, is that deflationism is true.
