The African Institute of Epistemology & Philosophy of Science<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/n3gPCr81nyt1GRZVAu7fmf44MpL?domain=uj.ac.za> (ACEPS), at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa invites applications for Philosophy Masters/Doctoral scholarships (fees + research assistantship), starting 1 February 2027. Continued funding is dependent on performance and reviewed every term.

ACEPS's core areas of expertise are ­epistemic decolonisation, epistemic oppression, African epistemology, social epistemology, political philosophy and the epistemology of the internet/AI, and philosophy of science. A new area of interest is the Epistemology of Climate Change.

The candidate will:

  *   have obtained their Honours/MA in Philosophy in 2026 with a 70% minimum mark
  *   be proficient in English
  *   have a burgeoning publication record
  *   be required to be present in person at ACEPS and actively contribute to its vibrant life
  *   be expected to publish 1 or more journal articles per year (worth R20k/paper bursary for the student!)
  *   be expected to apply for external postgraduate funding, NRF<https://url.au.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/in89CyojxQT0RPoXNuNtwfx8uVz?domain=nrf.ac.za> and other fellowships
  *   Overseas applicants:

     *   can get assistance from ACEPS’s international postdocs
