Workshop: Doing Philosophy Historically
9 June 2026, 9-5, UNSW

This workshop aims to discuss the intersections and differences between Philosophy and History of Philosophy. It considers questions including: What is lost when philosophers treat historical texts as repositories of arguments detachable from their contexts? What distinguishes philosophical engagement with a past thinker from historical reconstruction? How do we separate exegetical accuracy from philosophical assessment? When do we cross the line between philosophical reconstruction and distorting the past? How is philosophical progress dependent on historical understanding? And more.

Venue: UNSW John Goodsell (F20), L2 Room 221
In-person only
Registration is free but essential.
