WORKSHOP ON MYSTICISM AND THE LOGIC OF PANENTHEISM
5th World Congress on Logic and Religion (WoCoLoR)
September 23-27, 2026, Vancouver, Canada

Deadline: May 1st

KEYNOTE SPEAKER
------------------------
Philip Clayton, Claremont School of Theology, USA

DESCRIPTION
------------------
As part of the 5th World Congress on Logic and Religion, the workshop “Mysticism and the Logic of Panentheism” explores the rich and often underexamined relationship between panentheistic models of the divine and mystical experience, while bringing into focus the logical structures that underlie panentheistic thought. Particular attention will be given to how panentheism seeks to articulate the coexistence of divine immanence and transcendence, and to the ways in which this dual affirmation both motivates and challenges a formal philosophical analysis. By integrating perspectives from philosophy, theology, and religious studies, the workshop aims to foster a deeper understanding of panentheism as both a conceptual framework and a lived, experiential orientation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Mysticism and panentheistic metaphysics;
* The impact of a panentheistic worldview on spiritual practice and religious life;
* The logical coherence of panentheism;
* The demarcation problem (distinguishing panentheism from pantheism, classical theism, and related models);
* Panentheism in relation to other models of God;
* Panentheism and contemporary science;
* Ecological implications of panentheism.

THE WORLD CONGRESS ON LOGIC AND RELIGION
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The purpose of the World Congress on Logic and Religion series is to provide a forum where scholars from diverse disciplines, together with theologians from a wide range of religious traditions, can engage one another on the latest developments at the intersection of logic and religion—reason and faith, rational inquiry and divine revelation. The congress has held four editions to date: in João Pessoa (2015), Warsaw (2017), Varanasi (2022), and Sinaia (2023). Previous keynote speakers include Saul Kripke (Schock Prize), Laurent Lafforgue (Fields Medal), Michał Heller (Templeton Prize), Dov Gabbay, Jan Woleński, Piergiorgio Odifreddi, Richard Swinburne, Eleonore Stump, and Purushottama Bilimoria.
