[SydPhil] Macquarie University Lighthouse Fellowship (MQLF) 2027 - Call for Intentions to Apply

The following item may be of interest.

Macquarie University (Sydney, Australia) will offer up to 10 full-time Research Fellowship positions (Macquarie University Lighthouse Fellowship - MQLF) commencing in 2027. Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will be fixed-term for three to four years. Applicants are eligible only if their PhD has been conferred on or after 1 March 2023; or their thesis was submitted on or before 31 December 2025. The Fellowship cannot commence until the PhD has been conferred, which must be by 30 June 2027. Applications from those whose PhD was conferred prior to 1 March 2023 require a convincing case for early career researcher status (i.e. substantiate an allowable period of career interruption that would be commensurate with conferral of their PhD on or after 1 March 2023).

If you have an interest in applying for a Fellowship in the 2027 round in the Discipline of Philosophy, please send the following to Dr Katrina Hutchison (katrina.hutchison at mq.edu.au) by Monday, 9 February 2026:

1. Provisional project title and a brief (400-word) project description
2. Name of potential Sponsor (there is no need to contact them at this stage)
3. Your PhD conferral date (or thesis submission date if the PhD is not yet awarded).
4. A copy of your CV as an attachment including a list of publications. Publications should be listed under the following headings: books, book chapters, peer-reviewed journal articles and other. Your CV should also briefly detail any career interruptions since the award of your PhD. Please also ensure that your CV lists any grant funding or other research income.

You are also very welcome to email katrina.hutchison at mq.edu.au for further advice or information before sending these documents, especially if you would like to discuss your planned project idea or better understand what sorts of projects may be competitive.

The MQLF Scheme provides an incubation period for early career researchers to allow them to increase their competitive edge in securing research funding from non-University sources. In addition, the Scheme aims to enhance the research capabilities of existing and emerging areas of research strength at Macquarie University. Applicants must be firmly aligned with the research environment and ambitions of at least one of the Macquarie University Strategic Research Initiatives, which includes the BioInnovation Initiative, Macquarie University Research Centres and Faculty Research Centres.

Applications sponsored by researchers in philosophy will generally align with research in the Ethics and Agency Research Centre. Selected applicants must work closely with their Sponsor to clearly describe alignment between the proposed project and Macquarie University Strategic Research Initiatives. If the Discipline of Philosophy is able to sponsor your application, you will be notified by Monday, 16 February 2026. Sponsored applicants will then be invited to work with their sponsors to develop their formal applications which must be submitted via the WorkDay system by 16 March 2026.
