The series explores a range of topics and emerging conversations in South Asian philosophy as practised and discussed both in Australia and by philosophers working in or originating from the region. It is aimed at both philosophers and a wider general audience.

Episode 2, Rethinking South Asian Philosophy: Exploring Ancient Indian Philosophy, is now available online.

Abstract

In our second episode, I sit down with Professor Monima Chadha (Oxford) and Distinguished Professor Graham Priest (CUNY) to explore topics in Ancient Indian philosophy. We discuss the Buddhist denial of the self, how Buddhist philosophy can reshape moral responsibility, some mind-boggling puzzles in logic, and the kinds of questions the Buddha was asked in his sermons and why he responded as he did. We also reflect on the barriers that persist between Indian and Western philosophical traditions and share stories about the value of engaging in cross-cultural philosophy.
