Dr Tony Street (University of Cambridge)

Avicenna’s two definitions of differentia: 13th century worries about the predicables.

Dr Tony Street is Assistant Director of Research of Islamic Studies at Cambridge's Faculty of Divinity. He works on Arabic logic, especially logic in the traditions after Avicenna. He has recently translated and commented on a widely-read 13th-century treatise of logic, Logical Rules for Shams al-Dīn by Najm al-Dīn al-Kātibī. He is a Principal Investigator on the ERC Synergy grant, Logic in Reverse: Illegitimate Argumentative Moves in the Arabic, Byzantine, Hebrew and Latin Medieval Traditions, in collaboration with colleagues from the CNRS, Lille and Geneva.
