Hi all,
Apologies for cross posting.
FINAL REMINDER CFA: Deadline 28 June 2024
The Australian Centre for Health Engagement, Evidence and Values (ACHEEV)
invites you to submit an abstract on:
ENGAGING INDIVIDUALS, ENGAGING COMMUNITIES
Equity, marginalisation, and inclusion in health
Symposium Date: 6 December 2024, Friday, all day
Venue: University of Wollongong, Wollongong NSW Australia
SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW:
A variety of research methods that rest on engagement with citizens and
communities have become an increasingly important way of addressing health
issues that affect marginalised groups.
There are, however, key tensions that researchers face when engaging with
citizens and communities. These include:
- Balancing interests of individual citizens and
groups/communities/populations;
- Articulating identities in the context of intersectionality;
- Aiming for generalisability of findings at the risk of homogenising
perspectives; and
- Promoting best practice engagement within the structures of academic
research funding.
We welcome submissions for oral presentations that highlight challenges
faced and lessons learned in navigating them. We are interested in the
following themes across disciplines:
- Conceptual, critical and theoretical analysis of engagement with
individuals and communities.
- Empirical perspectives and methodological designs that ensure meaningful,
equitable and inclusive engagement in health research.
- Strategies to increase likelihood of knowledge translation into policy or
practice.

The Australian Centre for Health Engagement, Evidence and Values (ACHEEV)
was established in January 2019. Our work focuses on health: the health of
people, other animals, society and the planet, and how all of these things
are connected. Our research is rigorous, interdisciplinary and
independent. We are not afraid to ask difficult questions, and we have the
skills, knowledge and experience to generate meaningful answers that can
guide policy and practice.
