The event will be held on Friday, November 5 11am-12:30pm (Sydney time). That translates to the following times elsewhere: Tokyo: Friday, 9am-10:30am Singapore: Friday, 8am-9:30am Los Angeles: Thursday, 5-6:30pm Mexico City: Thursday, 6-7:30pm New York City: Thursday, 8-9:30pm To receive a Zoom link, please sign up for Critical Antiquities Network announcements here. Here is the abstract: While eros is of key philosophical significance for Plato, it all but disappears in Aristotle's thought, replaced by that more rational and reciprocal relation, philia. This paper explores the demise of eros in Aristotle via an investigation of the ancient epithet er?s lusimel?s, and suggests, with the assistance of Julia Kristeva, that it may reappear in other forms in his corpus, disguised and sublimated yet still operative. Please find more details about the talk and the Zoom link below.---------Participatory Moral Reasons: Their Scope and StrengthGarrett Cullity (ANU)Abstract. According to ordinary moral thought, we have reasons to join in worthwhile group activities and reasons not to join in morally bad group activities. Reasons of both kinds can exist even when the group is very large, and your participation or non-participation will make little difference to what is achieved by the group. If we take this thought seriously, two sets of questions arise. First, there are questions of scope. What conditions must a group meet in order to generate participatory reasons of these kinds, and what conditions must I meet for those reasons to apply to me? Secondly, there are questions about what it takes for such reasons to generate moral requirements. Can a general explanation be given of the conditions under which participating in worthwhile joint actions and not participating in bad ones is morally required? I present answers to these questions, and draw out some implications of the answers.---------Join from PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android: https://uni-sydney.zoom.us/j/87846208245Or iPhone one-tap :    US: +13462487799,,87846208245# or +16465588656,,87846208245# Or Telephone:    Dial(for higher quality, dial a number based on your current location)?        US: +1 346 248 7799 or +1 646 558 8656 or +1 669 900 6833 or +1 253 215 8782 or +1 301 715 8592 or +1 312 626 6799     Meeting ID: 878 4620 8245    International numbers available: https://uni-sydney.zoom.us/u/kcQgsS6l7xOr an H.323/SIP room system:    Dial: 87846208245@@zmau.us    or SIP:87846208245 at zmau.us    or 103.122.166.55    Meeting ID: 87846208245Or Skype for Business (Lync):    https://uni-sydney.zoom.us/skype/87846208245Need help using Zoom?
