Abstract:
David Armstrong was much the most internationally successful philosopher to come from Sydney. The talk will begin with an introduction to his life from privileged Empire childhood and Push fringe to acclaimed elder statesman of realist philosophy. Then it will survey his philosophy, from its Andersonian realist inheritance to his views on materialism and his theory of universals and views on a few other topics such as religion and ethics.
