PhD Scholarship in Spirituality and Healthcare Ethics
The University of Notre Dame Australia, Sydney
(Full-Time, $30,000p.a., for Three Years)
The University of Notre Dame Australia is offering one (tax-free) PhD scholarship, $30,000 per annum, for up to three years. We are seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from highly motivated candidates interested in pursuing a PhD program of study in the area of Spirituality and Healthcare Ethics under the direction of a team of experts. Established by the Australian Commonwealth Government, this scholarship is available to high achieving domestic and international students undertaking a PhD degree. The researcher will be based in the Institute for Ethics & Society on Notre Dame's Broadway campus.
The program of study may involve investigation of:
* The relationship between a patient's spirituality, health and well-being
* The nature of existential suffering at the end of life and the factors that impact its intensity and influence its path
* The development of new interventions to relieve patients' existential suffering and to identify best practice in this area of healthcare.
* Existential suffering in palliative and acute care settings
* Practice-based evidence for spiritually integrated therapies
Notre Dame researchers working in this research focus area include: Prof. Margaret Somerville (Prof. of Bioethics, School of Medicine), Prof. Sandra Lynch (Prof. of Moral Philosophy, Institute for Ethics & Society), Prof. Tracey Rowland (Prof. of Theology, School of Philosophy and Theology), Dr. Megan Best (Institute for Ethics & Society), A/Prof. Natasha Michael (School of Medicine), Xavier Symons (Institute for Ethics & Society).
Candidates must hold a relevant Honours (1 or 2A) or Master degree (Bioethics, Medical Ethics, a relevant field of Philosophy) or be able to demonstrate equivalent research experience.
