Coherent theories of moral and legal reasoning have become significant in
the last decades. These theories argue that decision-makers should develop
a scheme in which all reasons support each other and form a coherent whole.
Hence, the more reasons support a particular decision, the more likely it
is correct. However, coherent theories can be challenging as these require
agents to consider all possible norms and arguments before reaching a
decision. Also, a set of reasons may be entirely coherent but ethically
unjustifiable. In this way, the workshop aims to open a space for critical
analysis of the virtues and limits of coherence in moral and legal
reasoning.


The aim of this interdisciplinary workshop is to bring together researchers
in moral and legal philosophy especially in the Australasian region, but
contributions from all continents are heartily welcomed.

*Keynote*

Amalia Amaya will deliver the keynote.


Amalia is Research Fellow at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Her latest book *The Tapestry of Reason: An Inquiry into the Nature of
Coherence and its Role in Legal Argument* (Hart Publishing, 2015)
articulates an interdisciplinary coherence-based theory of legal reasoning.


*Deadline for abstracts (200-500 words): July 10, 2015*.


Abstracts should be in Word- or pdf-format, and sent to
rodrigo.camarena-gonzalez at students.mq.edu.au


We anticipate longer and shorter paper sessions. Feel free to indicate
which one is preferred. Academics and Ph.D. students are encouraged to
submit.
