Australian Hearing Hub Level 3, 3.610, Macquarie University, 12:00PM until
Amnesia, Time, and Decision-Making

Individuals with episodic amnesia are commonly said to be stuck in time,
trapped in a permanent present, or confined to the here and now. This
description leads many researchers to associate episodic memory
fundamentally with mental time travel or subjective temporality. I will
present evidence (collected with Shayna Rosenbaum and Donna Kwan at York
University in Toronto) of preserved abilities of individuals with episodic
amnesia to understand their place in time and to make adaptive decisions
about future times that are functionally identical to those made by
controls. I close by considering how these findings help to reshape both
the concept of episodic memory and our understanding of medial temporal
lobe function.

If you are interested in meeting with any of the seminar speakers, please
contact the Seminar Series Coordinator, Cory Bill at cory.bill at mq.edu.au
with your request and your availability, and we will attempt to arrange a
meeting for you.
