Dear all,

The next USyd philosophy postgraduate colloquium will be held on
Monday October 20 @ 2pm in the Muniment room (Quadrangle building,
University of Sydney). This week afternoon tea will be held *during*,
rather than after, the talk. All very welcome!!

Talk details:
Speaker: Lok-Chi Chan

Title: 'Varieties of Ontological Naturalism'

Abstract: Ontological naturalism is a grand metaphysical worldview
which has a crucial role in many contemporary philosophical fields,
such as metaphysics, metaethics, mind, religion and language. To put
it simply, it is the view that everything that exist is 'ontologically
natural', and there are no 'ontologically non-natural' things in the
actual world. To understand this, we have to understand what being
'ontologically natural' is. This talk will be a critical assessment of
different ways to define ontological naturalism, including ones from
the philosophical literature and some possible ones. Its relation with
materialism and physicalism will also be assessed.
