*OUR FINAL INVENTION?*
Will the human race be taken over and wiped out by computers? This is
the subject of many sci-fi movies, but it is also the subject of the
next Blackheath Philosophy Forum on Saturday June 28.
Three Young Philosophers, Toby Solomon, Heydon Wardell-Burns and
Alice Evans, will tackle this topic in a talk titled"Our Final
Invention".They will discuss how Artificial Intelligence researchers
think the emergence of machines with human-like intelligence is more
likely than not this century. Some think it will not stop there --
that such intelligences would go on to improve themselves at
computational speed. Is this our final invention?
Toby is currently completing his philosophy honours studies at the
University of Sydney.Heydon graduated in Philosophy with First-class
Honours from the University of Sydney in 2012 and is now finishing
his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Sydney, including a
further honours thesis in equity. Alice graduated with First Class
Honours in Philosophy and now concentrates on Art and Psychology.
The Blackheath Philosophy Forum is held on Saturdaysfortnightly from
4pm-6pm at the Blackheath Community Centre, corner GardinersCrescent
and the Great Western Highway.$10 admission includes a big afternoon
tea. Hall is heated. All Welcome!
