This is a reminder for:

Title: John Hadley, UWS
The epistemology of direct action advocacy in democratic theory

The focus of this paper is the epistemic status of direct action in
deliberative democracy theory. Do the norms of epistemic realism, public
reason, and recent Peircean conceptions of deliberation rule out the use of
direct action as a constructive form of political campaigning? In what
sense may direct action be useful for helping deliberators to arrive at the
truth or reach a satisfying conclusion? I address these questions with
reference to recent debate over direct action animal rights advocacy and
recent social science research into animal rights as a functional religion.
