**Moral Ignorance is Not Exculpatory**

In recent years, a number of philosophers have argued that wrong acts are  
excusable if they are done out of moral ignorance. It is a little tricky to  
pin down exactly what relationship is being claimed between ignorance and  
excuse; there are a number of different precisifications of the intuitive  
idea. But none of these more precise claims are true. Indeed, they are all  
subject to fairly simple counterexamples. I conclude that moral ignorance  
is not after all exculpatory.
