Thursday March 7, Peter Banki, Philosophy and Sex 

 

 

With some exceptions, there has been an aversion to discussing sex in
Western philosophy,.  In his talk, Peter will consider some of the ways in
which sex has been mentioned in the work of Plato, Kant and Nietzsche as
well as more radical attempts to bring sex and philosophy together in work
of Georges Bataille and Friedrich Schlegel. 

 

Peter Banksi obtained his Ph.D in  2009, in the Department of Germanic
Languages and Literatures at New York University.  His dissertation, "The
Forgiveness to Come: Dreams and Aporias". addressed the difficulties posed
by the Holocaust for  thinking about forgiveness

 

The upstairs café, Berkelouw Books 70 Norton St  Leichhardt,

 

Starts at  7.15 instead of 7.30, Finish at  8.45   instead of 9.00pm. We
will have to be out by 9, 00 pm as Berkelouws closes then
