The next meeting of the Workgroup on Recognition in Sydney is on Thursday, November 22, 12.30pm at the Duck Inn pub (74 Rose St in Chippendale).

The text to be discussed is Axel Honneth: ‘Facets of the Presocial Self: Rejoinder to Joel Whitebook’, in Honneth: The I in We - Studies in the Theory of Recognition, Polity, 2012.

You might also want to take a look at Joel Whitebook, ‘Mutual Recognition and the Work of the Negative’ ( in http://books.google.com.au/books/about/Pluralism_and_the_Pragmatic_Turn.html?id=--cq_W_Uv00C&redir_esc=y) which Honneth’s paper is a response to.

Anyone interested in theories of recognition, or psychoanalysis, or both (both students and staff) are warmly welcome. If you are planning to attend, please let us know in advance for table reservations. If you know anyone else who might be interested, feel free to pass on the information.

If you don’t have access to Honneth’s text, please contact Heikki Ikaheimo.

Looking forward to seeing you there,
Jean-Philippe Deranty (jp.deranty at mq.edu.au) and Heikki Ikaheimo (h.ikaheimo at unsw.edu.au)
